Welcome to RUF @ Duke!

Reformed University Fellowship or RUF is the college ministry of the Presbyterian Church in America. Though Presbyterian in affiliation, RUF is a place for any Duke student, regardless of your beliefs or doubts, to explore Christianity and grow in your understanding of who Jesus is and what it means to follow him in community with other Duke students.

RUF Small Group Studies

Study #1: When Helping Hurts

The first study will continue to ask a question we wrestled with last semester during our Large Group series on the Kingdom of God. Thequestion is this, "How does God change the world?" The new strategic plan for Duke University under President Richard Brodhead is called Making a Difference. Every day all across campus students and faculty are working to change the world, to help make the world a better place. This is a good thing. But, how do we know if what we are doing to help other people is really helping? And even more importantly, how do we know if what we are pursuing is inline with God's Kingdom? In an effort to address these questions and to foster thinking about making a difference from a biblical perspective we are going to read and discuss a book called When Helping Hurts by Steve Corbett and Brian Fikkert.

So far we have two options for this study:
1. Mondays at 10 AM - Central Campus 1712 Pace Apt. Q
2. Fridays at 10 AM - Keohane 4B Seminar Room 402 Where is this room!?
If one of these times doesn't work for you go to the Doodle Poll and indicate which times do work and you will receive an email confirming a small group time.

Study #2: Communion with God

Our second study will take a long, deep look at what it means to have a relationship with the triune God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. There is no shortage of literature talking about what it means to have a relationship with God. Some of it is good and some of it not so good. However, we are going to read through a classic that is worth its weight in gold by John Owen (1616-1683). Owen mines the scriptures to unfold for his readers what communion with the Father, Son and Holy Spirit really is along with incredibly helpful, practical directions for how to grow in communion with God. Whether you've been a Christian your whole or you're trying to figure out what Christians mean by "have a relationship with God" this little book will give plenty to chew on.

So far we have two options for this study:
1. Tuesdays at 4:15 PM - Keohane 4B Seminar Room 402 Where is this room!?
2. Fridays at 1:15 PM - Keohane 4B 402 Commons Room Where is this room!?
If one of these times doesn't work for you go to the Doodle Poll and indicate which times do work and you will receive an email confirming a small group time.
